About SomaliReport

SomaliReport is a nonprofit, pan-Somali investigative newsroom founded in June 2025 and built for the digital age. We are dedicated to telling Somali stories from across the Horn of Africa and the global diaspora - in English, with a global perspective.

We produce journalism that is independent, fearless, deeply reported, and relentlessly factual. Our work blends breaking news, rigorous investigations, in-depth features, sharp analysis, and thoughtful commentary. At the heart of our mission is a commitment to amplify voices that are too often overlooked, challenge corruption and abuse of power, and illuminate the complexity and dynamism of Somali life everywhere.

Our newsroom reflects the evolving Somali experience. We tell stories that inspire, inform, and hold power to account - stories that resonate with English-speaking Somalis worldwide as well as international readers who follow the region with interest and care.

SomaliReport's journalism reaches audiences across platforms, including our website, newsletters, social media, and video. We are proudly digital-first, fiercely independent, and committed to public-interest reporting that strengthens understanding, transparency, and accountability throughout the Horn of Africa and its diaspora.

Our Mission

SomaliReport exists to deliver powerful, independent journalism that informs, challenges, and empowers Somali communities across the Horn of Africa and the global diaspora.

We provide trustworthy, deeply reported, fact-based coverage that brings context, clarity, and accountability to stories that shape Somali lives.

Our mission is simple but ambitious: To tell Somali stories with honesty, depth, and courage - and to strengthen public understanding so people can make informed decisions and drive positive change.

Our Vision

To become the most trusted, influential, and courageous pan-Somali investigative newsroom - a global reference point for understanding Somali stories, Somali people, and Somali futures.

Our Values

Truth & Accountability

We pursue truth fearlessly and without compromise. There are no "alternative facts." Our responsibility is to uncover, verify, and present fact-based truth, even when it is inconvenient or contested.

Independence

We are a nonprofit newsroom free from political influence, government agendas, and commercial interference. Independence is the freedom to follow evidence wherever it leads.

Factual Accuracy

Every piece undergoes careful research and verification. Accuracy always comes before speed. We make clear what we know, what we don't know, and how we know it.

Transparency

We believe transparency strengthens trust. We disclose sources and funding relationships appropriately. We never omit key facts.

In-Depth Reporting & Context

We go beyond headlines. Our journalism explains significance: why a story matters, what forces shape it, and how it affects the lives of people.

Audience-Centric Journalism

Our journalism serves the public. We listen to our audiences and produce reporting that strengthens their ability to understand their world.

Quality & Craft

We aim for magazine-quality storytelling. Strong writing, thoughtful insights, and clean, modern presentation are part of our identity.

Right of Response

We give all subjects of critical reporting a fair opportunity to respond, allowing reasonable time for replies.

Use of Technology & AI

SomaliReport embraces emerging technologies - including AI - as tools that can expand our reporting capacity. However, these tools never replace human editorial judgment. We use them responsibly, transparently, and ethically, ensuring they strengthen - not undermine - accuracy, fairness, and independence.
