US Representative Ilhan Omar raised more than $1.5 million over two days after federal agents searched her Minnesota home as part of an investigation into alleged immigration document irregularities, according to The Washington Post.
WASHINGTON (Somali Report) — US Representative Ilhan Omar raised more than $1.5 million for her political campaign on the day federal agents searched her home and the following day, according to an analysis by The Washington Post, as the Minnesota Democrat faces a federal investigation into alleged immigration document irregularities.
Omar collected approximately $1.9 million during the first two weeks of October, according to data from the US Federal Election Commission (FEC).
On October 12, the day her home was searched, she raised $847,000, marking her biggest single-day fundraising haul in the past two years, the newspaper's analysis found. She collected another $665,000 the following day.
The figures highlight a surge in financial support for the congresswoman following the search, which has drawn attention to an investigation involving her family's immigration history.
Omar has raised more than $8 million for her two-year election campaign so far, according to the figures cited in the report.
Homeland Security Investigations, a federal law enforcement agency within the Department of Homeland Security, carried out the search as part of a federal investigation examining whether Omar or her late father made false statements in immigration documents submitted after the family arrived in the United States in the 1990s.
Omar was 12 when she came to the United States with her family. Her father later died.
The congresswoman has repeatedly denied wrongdoing in connection with her immigration records and has described the investigation as politically motivated intimidation.

She has also appealed to supporters for financial contributions to help cover legal expenses arising from the case.
In a video posted on social media on Tuesday, Omar warned that the legal process could be costly and difficult.
"This is going to be a very expensive and challenging time," she said, urging supporters to contribute to her campaign.
The fundraising came as Omar sought to mobilise supporters in response to the investigation and the potential costs of defending herself. The rapid increase in donations over the two days followed the search, although the figures alone do not establish why individual donors contributed or whether the investigation directly caused the increase.
Omar, who represents Minnesota's 5th Congressional District, is a prominent progressive Democrat and a frequent critic of US President Donald Trump and his administration. She was born in Somalia and arrived in the United States as a refugee before entering politics.
The investigation has placed renewed attention on questions surrounding her immigration history, which Omar has previously defended against allegations of wrongdoing.
Federal investigators have not, in the information provided, established that Omar or her father committed an offence. The allegations remain under investigation, and Omar has denied wrongdoing.
The fundraising figures also reflect the role of small-dollar and online contributions in modern US congressional campaigns, where political controversies can prompt supporters to mobilise financially.
Omar's campaign is continuing to collect donations as she prepares for the next stages of her political and legal challenges.
