Somalia's opposition has raised concerns over reported security operations targeting prominent figures in Mogadishu, warning that such actions could deepen political divisions and threaten efforts to ease tensions in the capital following recent clashes.
MOGADISHU (Somali Report) — The Somali Salvation Forum (SSF) has warned that any security operation targeting the residence of former Somali National Army Chief General Odowaa Yusuf Rage could further escalate tensions in Mogadishu amid an ongoing political and security standoff.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the opposition-aligned forum alleged that a special military unit led by Aadan Mohamed Omar, commonly known as “Aadan Dheere,” and backed by members of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), was preparing to conduct an operation at the former army commander’s home in Mogadishu’s Abdiaziz district.
The forum also condemned an overnight security raid on the residence of Sheikh Abdulqadir Soomow, describing the move as provocative and warning that similar actions risk worsening the fragile security situation in the capital.
According to the statement, any attempt to target figures associated with the opposition could undermine ongoing mediation efforts and ceasefire arrangements aimed at restoring stability in Mogadishu following recent clashes.

SSF called on all parties to avoid actions that could inflame tensions and instead support dialogue and de-escalation efforts to preserve peace and security.
The statement comes as Banadir Regional Police confirmed that security forces are carrying out search operations in Abdiaziz district and other areas affected by recent fighting between government forces and fighters loyal to former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed.
Police said the operations are intended to recover weapons allegedly hidden in the area after the clashes and to prevent further violence.
