Janan Expected to Join New Jubaland Cabinet After Political Deal
Former Jubaland Security Minister Abdirashid Janan is reportedly set to join the new Jubaland Cabinet following a political agreement with the administration, although his appointment has yet to be officially confirmed.
Kismayo, Somali Report — Abdirashid Hassan Abdinur Janan, the former Jubaland Minister of Security, is expected to become a member of the new Jubaland Cabinet, according to reports emerging from the administration.
The new Cabinet is expected to be appointed soon by Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam Ahmed Madobe, with Janan reportedly among the figures being considered for a ministerial position following a political agreement reached between him and the Jubaland administration.
Janan recently announced that he had reached an agreement with the Jubaland leadership, bringing an apparent end to a prolonged political and security dispute that had kept him away from the administration’s senior political circles.
According to information emerging about the agreement, one of its key provisions was reportedly that Janan would be appointed to a ministerial position once the new Cabinet is formed. If implemented, the move would mark Janan’s return to a senior official position within Jubaland after a period of political uncertainty.
Janan previously served as Jubaland’s Minister of Security and has significant political and security experience, particularly in Somalia’s Gedo region. His potential return to the administration could therefore have implications for the political and security dynamics in Jubaland, especially in relation to Gedo.
Reports also indicate that the agreement was signed on behalf of Jubaland by Mohamed Ahmed Sabriye Basaam, Director of the Jubaland Intelligence and Security Agency. Basaam is reported to have played a role in negotiations aimed at resolving the dispute between Janan and the Jubaland administration.

The reported agreement is being viewed as part of broader efforts to bring together political figures and groups that have previously been divided over the administration’s political and security policies.
Janan’s possible appointment to the Cabinet could also strengthen the Jubaland administration’s efforts to consolidate political support, particularly among actors with influence and experience in Gedo. His previous role as Security Minister and his involvement in regional security affairs could make him an important figure within the new administration.
However, Janan’s appointment has not yet been officially confirmed. The final decision will depend on President Ahmed Madobe’s formal announcement of the new Jubaland Cabinet.
Until that announcement is made, reports regarding Janan’s ministerial appointment remain unconfirmed. It is also unclear which ministry he would be expected to lead if he is ultimately appointed.
The development comes as Jubaland prepares to form a new Cabinet, with attention focused on the individuals who will occupy key ministerial positions and the political balance that the new administration will establish.
