Somali Woman Left with Permanent Facial Scars After Alleged Random Attack in Central Dublin

A 22-year-old Somali woman has been left with permanent facial scars after an alleged unprovoked attack on Dublin’s O’Connell Street. The suspect has been charged, while Gardaí continue investigating the incident, which has raised renewed concerns about public safety in Ireland’s capital.

Dublin, (Somali Report)A 22-year-old Somali woman, Rahma Mohamud Abdi, suffered serious facial injuries and permanent scarring after she was allegedly attacked with a sharp object while walking along O’Connell Street, one of Dublin’s busiest thoroughfares.

According to court proceedings and published reports, Rahma was walking through the city centre when a woman she did not know suddenly approached her. The suspect allegedly launched an unprovoked attack, slashing Rahma across the face with a sharp object and leaving her with deep wounds that required immediate medical treatment.

Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, and Rahma was taken to hospital where doctors treated her injuries. Although medical staff were able to stop the bleeding and provide emergency care, the attack left her with visible facial scars that doctors believe may be permanent.

Speaking about the impact of the attack, Rahma said the injuries have affected not only her physical appearance but also her mental and emotional well-being. She described living with constant fear and anxiety whenever she walks alone in the city, adding that the incident has significantly damaged her confidence and changed her daily life.

The case has since come before the courts, where a woman accused of carrying out the attack has been charged. Ireland’s national police service, An Garda Síochána, confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing as officers continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The alleged attack has sparked renewed concern about public safety in Dublin city centre, with many residents expressing alarm over reports of random acts of violence in busy public areas. Community representatives and local residents have called for increased Garda patrols and stronger security measures to help prevent similar incidents from occurring.

Members of the Somali community in Ireland have also expressed their sympathy and support for Rahma Mohamud Abdi. Many have shared messages wishing her a full recovery and calling for justice to be served. Community leaders have urged authorities to take a firm stance against violent crime to ensure the safety of everyone living in Ireland.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have video footage, photographs, or other information that could assist the investigation to contact the nearest Garda station. Investigators say even small pieces of information could prove valuable in helping establish exactly what happened.
