Abu Dhabi, Somali Report — The United Arab Emirates has taken a new and significant step against Iran, announcing the suspension of trade, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Tehran after Abu Dhabi said two ballistic missiles had been launched from the direction of Iran and landed near UAE waters.

The decision comes as tensions between Iran and the Gulf states have once again intensified, with the UAE saying the measure is linked to the deteriorating security situation and what it considers growing threats to the country’s security.

UAE authorities said their air-defense systems detected two ballistic missiles approaching the country. According to the UAE’s account, one of the missiles landed outside the country’s territorial waters, while the other landed within UAE territorial waters.

The UAE also said an assessment of the incident indicated that the missiles were intended to target maritime traffic and vessels in the region, raising further concerns over the security of vital shipping routes in the Gulf.

Iran, however, has strongly rejected the UAE’s allegations. Tehran denied responsibility for the missiles reportedly detected near UAE waters and called for restraint, warning against unverified accusations that could further damage diplomatic efforts and regional stability.

The conflicting claims have left significant questions surrounding the incident. The UAE maintains that the missiles originated from the direction of Iran, while Tehran has completely denied carrying out the attack. So far, there has been no independent evidence publicly establishing who launched the missiles.

The UAE’s decision is particularly significant given the long-standing economic relationship between the two countries. Iran and the UAE have maintained substantial commercial links for years, with Dubai serving as an important trading and financial hub for Iranian businesses and merchants. The suspension of trade and financial transactions could therefore have consequences for companies and traders on both sides.

It is also important to distinguish between economic ties and diplomatic relations. Reports suggesting that the UAE has now completely severed diplomatic relations with Iran should be treated carefully, as relations between the two countries had already deteriorated significantly and Abu Dhabi had previously taken major diplomatic measures against Tehran.

The latest escalation comes as the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically important waterways. The route is crucial for the transportation of oil and natural gas to international markets. Any further military escalation in the area could affect commercial shipping, energy prices and the economies of countries dependent on maritime trade.

The missile incident could also increase diplomatic pressure on both Tehran and Abu Dhabi, as regional and international governments closely monitor developments and seek to prevent further escalation.

The UAE has reiterated its determination to protect its territory and territorial waters, while Iran continues to reject the allegations against it. If the two sides fail to find a diplomatic mechanism to ease tensions, the latest dispute could further deepen the broader security crisis already affecting the Gulf region.

For now, the central issue remains unresolved: Abu Dhabi says the missiles came from the direction of Iran, while Tehran denies responsibility. Further evidence or official investigations could determine whether the UAE’s assessment can be independently verified.

Somali Report will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as more information emerges about the escalating tensions between the United Arab Emirates and Iran.
